Why a Rolls-Royce in Chicago

Chicago is a city of old money, new money, and the tension between them. A Rolls-Royce settles that argument on arrival. Whether the address is the Waldorf Astoria on Walton Street, the Four Seasons on Delaware Place, or a brownstone on Astor Street in the Gold Coast, a Rolls-Royce is still the single car that every doorman remembers by sight.

The Cullinan is our all-weather workhorse. It runs the whole year - July weddings at the Peninsula, September corporate nights during convention week, January airport pickups when Lake Shore Drive is frozen solid. The Dawn is the seasonal piece, booked from late April through October for convertible cruising and summer evening arrivals. Both cars are hand-built at the Goodwood factory in West Sussex, and both carry the Spirit of Ecstasy on the hood.

The Cullinan case

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is the only luxury SUV that genuinely reads as a Rolls-Royce first and an SUV second. The Magic Carpet Ride suspension scans the road 100 times a second and adjusts the air springs in real time. The coach doors swing backward. The cabin is lined with lamb's wool floor mats, hand-stitched leather, and a Starlight headliner with over 1,300 fiber-optic points of light. It is engineered to make the worst road in Chicago feel like a runway. On Lake Shore Drive at 6 a.m. in February, that promise is not abstract.

The Dawn case

The Rolls-Royce Dawn is a different philosophy. It is a four-seat convertible grand tourer with a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12, a fabric roof that stows in under 20 seconds, and a cabin that seats four adults without asking anyone in the back to apologize. It is the car for a Chicago summer dinner at RPM Italian, for a slow Friday cruise down Michigan Avenue, for an anniversary weekend along the lakefront. A Dawn with the roof down and the Buckingham Fountain behind it is the single most elegant photograph anyone in our fleet takes.

Wedding venue rentals

Rolls-Royce is far and away the most-booked wedding car in our stable. Our Cullinan and our Dawn have been photographed at the Drake Hotel driveway, the Chicago Cultural Center's Preston Bradley Hall, the Peninsula, the Four Seasons, the Langham, the Waldorf Astoria, the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, Salvage One, Galleria Marchetti, The Rookery Building, and private residences throughout Lincoln Park and Winnetka. The Cullinan is the best bad-weather wedding car in Chicago - the coach doors keep the bride's dress inside the sill as she steps out, and the interior is tall enough that no veil gets caught. The full wedding venue list lives in our Chicago wedding rental guide.

Corporate and executive transport

For convention weeks at McCormick Place, executive dinners at Alinea or Smyth, and C-suite pickups at O'Hare, the Cullinan is the only car in our fleet that answers all three jobs without compromise. Seats five adults with luggage room. Runs in any weather. Makes an understated but unmistakable impression at the curb. More in our McCormick Place convention rental guide.

Chicago winter

This is the point most other rental fleets miss. The Cullinan is a winter car. It is all-wheel drive, it has 563 horsepower to spare, and it rides over pothole-season Chicago like the potholes are not there. We run it on winter tires from December through March. For clients who need a car that delivers in January snow without sacrificing arrival theater, the Cullinan is the answer. Full breakdown in our winter luxury SUV guide.
